The app doesn't start#

When GalShelf can't start it shows a message with the error, the log folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\GalShelf\logs) and a reminder that it needs the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. Install or repair the WebView2 Runtime from Microsoft, then start GalShelf again. Make sure you extracted the whole package and that the components folder is next to GalShelf.exe.

"This port is in use"#

The desktop app runs a local service on port 18765. If another GalShelf window, another copy of GalShelf or another program is using that port, you see a message asking you to quit it first. Close the other copy (check the system tray) and start GalShelf again. "Local service failed to start" or "timed out" usually has the same cause; the log says more.

"The local service has stopped"#

If the local service stops while the window is open, GalShelf says so and closes. Start it again; if it keeps happening, look at desktop.log in the log folder.

Logs#

  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\GalShelf\logs\desktop.log
  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\GalShelf\logs\desktop-output.log

Logs can contain file paths and other details from your computer; check them before sharing.

galbd is not connected#

See galbd / AstrBot troubleshooting. The most common cause is that the plugin wasn't reloaded after installing the bridge, or a plugin update removed the hooks.

Steam links but shows no games#

Signing in and reading data are separate steps. Make your Steam profile and game details public, wait a few minutes (results are cached for 10 minutes) and try again. See Steam.

Sync problems#

  • On the website, a conflict dialog means the same field was also changed elsewhere; choose which value to keep. Changes waiting in the browser are sent when the connection is back.
  • With galbd, conflicting fields are listed for you to choose. Don't resubmit repeatedly to force an overwrite.
  • Website edits don't appear in the desktop app: turn on Library sync in the new interface (the classic upload button only sends), and check that you are signed in to the account this library belongs to. See Sync.
  • Game saves are not part of library sync; see Cloud saves.

NextMoe sign-in#

The desktop app includes a NextMoe connection check you can run from its account settings. If sign-in in the browser doesn't return to the app, check that no firewall blocks local connections, then try again.

Magpie doesn't scale#

Quit any separately installed Magpie from the tray; GalShelf uses its own copy. See Native tools.

The website is in the wrong language#

Use the 中 / EN switch in the header, or add ?lang=zh-CN or ?lang=en to the address. The choice is stored in the galshelf_lang cookie; clearing cookies returns to your browser's language.

The website can't be reached#

If the site is temporarily down, the desktop app keeps working with your local library; sign-in and sync resume when it is back.

Reporting a problem#

There is no public issue tracker. Report problems through the channel you received GalShelf from, and include package-manifest.json from the program folder and the version shown in the title bar. Describe what you did and what you expected; attach logs only after checking them.
